Pannaggi’s Speeding Train (1922) demonstrates the Futurists’ sustained interest in the locomotive as a symbol of modernity, motion, and the machine. Speeding Train suggests the total sensory experience of observing the daily trains passing through the small coastal towns along the Adriatic, showing the blur of the moving cars, the clamorous noise of the motor, the ear-splitting scream of the whistle.

I love this piece because of its depiction of sensory and wanted to try to bring those visual representation into 3d.

 Sketches

How I see the painting in 3d.

The train should be black, but colorful in reflection. It should have power (acoustic wave) around. There should be colorful light shoots out from it. I want it to look heavy but still having a sense of moving.

Mockup

Before making the actual prototype, I made a couple versions of mockups to test out the overall look and adjust the dimension of components.

Mechanical Parts

I want this piece to be interactive even after solving the puzzle. So I did those work to figure out how to fit some aesthetically interesting wheels in this compact body.

CAD

For the “light” panels, I used computer aided design programs to figure out the composition and the intersections.
